Welcome to our Voter Education Series! This initiative is designed to help voters stay informed, empowered, and ready to participate in every election. We’ll break down key political terms each week, share important concepts, and guide you through the voter journey. This week, we’re diving into the term "Absentee Ballot," now more commonly called Vote-by-Mail in New Jersey.

What is an Absentee Ballot (Vote-by-Mail)?

Traditionally, an absentee ballot allowed registered voters to cast their votes by mail if they could not be physically present at their polling location on Election Day. In New Jersey, this process has evolved into the Vote-by-Mail system, making it accessible to all registered voters, regardless of their location or circumstances.

Why Does Vote-by-Mail Matter?

Vote-by-mail ensures every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in elections, even if life gets in the way. Whether you're traveling, working late, caring for family, or simply prefer the convenience, this method ensures no one misses their chance to cast their vote.
